Dubai has a modern road network and routes are well sign-posted making it quick and easy to navigate the emirate by car. Motorists are expected to abide by strict traffic regulations designed to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users.


Basic Driving Rules


  • There are numerous speed cameras on the roads and motorways. Fines in the UAE are heavy.

  • Tail-gating, speeding, racing, lane jumping and using a mobile phone while driving all are against the law.

  • The UAE has a zero-tolerance policy on drink and drive.

  • It is advisable for children to wear seatbelts at all times and be seated in an appropriate car seat for their age.

  • Wearing a seatbelt is mandatory.

  • Not all international licenses are valid; check before getting behind the wheel or face a heavy fine.
